1957 Bequest Dining Chairs by Emerson Brothers.

In 1957, Emerson Brothers partnered with Featherston to manufacture their forever-iconic Contour range. However, the Bequest chair is Emersons Brothers' own adaptation in their own right, a never-out-of-style dining chair.

We were lucky to get our hands on a full set of 6 from the original owner. This lovely lady was downsizing and could no longer hold onto them.

They came to us not in the best shape - with some sloppy wood fixes. We have lovingly restored them to the best of our ability (where further repair would risk damaging the chair), and without changing any of their original parts. Including the original upholstery.

The Bequest chair with its contours, splayed cigar legs, velour fabric and shallow tufting are a staple to any Mid-Century Modern home.

When researching a fair price, I have seen the Bequest chairs being incorrectly labelled as Featherston D350s and going easily for $400+ per chair. And even though they have been incorrectly labelled, I don't think $400 per chair is unfair. However, I would love for this set to go to a Mid-Century fanatic which is why...

Our set is much cheaper than this

As stated, we have, with respect, refurbished all of the chairs. Overall they present very very well.

The legs have been sanded and oiled with high quality Scandinavian oil. The upholstery has been bisselled and combed. This doesn't mean that they're perfect. They are, after all, 60 years old. 2 chairs have 1 leveling foot and there's slight wear to the upholstery - its mostly on one chair. The worst has been photographed in our condition pictures.
